MFin Career Question of the Week: Are you looking for ways to stay productive during the winter break?

Are you looking for ways to stay productive during the winter break?

Here is a quick refresher on how to make the most of the winter break.

Create a plan
The start of the year is a great time for planning. Reflect on your journey since the program started last year. What have you accomplished? What have you discovered about yourself, your interests, and your talent? How has the program experience informed your future career goals? Formulate a plan based on your reflection. Figure out what you need to do to achieve your goals.

Upgrade your skills
The year 2022 turned out to be a year of constant changes in the job market, but talents with strong core skills are always in demand. Whether you are exploring asset management or pivoting into quant, you can always find online resources to enhance your technical skills and domain knowledge. You can utilize tools such as Wall Street Prep or LinkedIn Learning to begin your self-study process. To develop your soft skills, try to take on a lead role in a project, teach others something you are good at, or challenge yourself with a less familiar task.

Revitalize your network
Take advantage of the less busy time of the year to reach out to your contacts. Did you work with someone closely in the past who you haven’t talked to for a while? Do you have a list of contacts recommended by a mentor or a friend? Have you connected with an alum at an event but didn’t have time to follow up one-to-one? The best time to revitalize and foster those relationships is now!

Want more specific suggestions based on your situation? Talk to your career advisor! Appointments are available on Career Central. All meetings are virtual in January (no need to be on campus!)
