Consulting

Shawn George, MBA ’25

Summer Internship: McKinsey, Summer Associate

Primary Recruiting Industry: Consulting

Additional Areas of Expertise: Energy

Hometown/Country: Houston, TX, United States

Clubs/Organizations: Management Consulting Club, MIT Energy Club, Sloan Christian Fellowship, Sloan Energy & Climate Club

Bio: During the Fall of 2023, I pivoted into a career in consulting from a nontraditional background (software sales in Energy & Materials). Through this process, I learned the value of leaning into my strengths that I developed from my time in Sales (the grit, tenacity, and persistence to win) and helped create my brand within the Energy space. I also have a passion for Formula 1, the intersection of US Foreign Policy and Energy Security, and some top tier ice cream (and other desserts!).

Talk to Me About: Consulting Recruiting, Case Interview Prep, Energy Ecosystem

My Biggest Piece of Career Advice for 1Ys: Trust the process and take it one day at a time. FOMO is real at Sloan and in the consulting recruiting process. This is where a focused approach can help pay dividends by targeting your valuable time and energy into what is really going to move the needle.

Clubs/Organizations: Sloan Senate, Black Business Students Association, Africa Business Club, Fintech Club, Venture Capital and Private Equity Club

Bio: My background prior to Sloan involved working with Big Data for customer and marketing analytics in Consumer Banking (Capital One). I think it’s such a special time to be at MIT and I’m always trying to find ways to engage with the ecosystem. So far, I’ve explored a variety of experiences, including Finance Lab (working for a European Fintech Startup), co-leading the Silicon Valley Study Tour and building LLM applications in MIT Media Lab Venture Studio. My Biggest Piece of Career Advice for 1Ys: Think about who you want to be in 5- 10 years…then ask yourself what actions you can start doing today to put you on track to meeting that goal. The actions should be small enough to be feasible today yet specific and measurable. You may not always end up where you imagined, but this approach will give you a clear vision to focus on and help you prioritize.

Pedro Nascimento, MBA ’25

Summer Internship: Bain & Company, Summer Associate

Primary Recruiting Industry: Consulting

Additional Areas of Expertise: Entrepreneurship

Hometown/Country: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Clubs/Organizations: Brazil Club, Wine Club

Bio: For eight years before coming to Sloan, I was an entrepreneur. I started businesses in industries as wide as consulting, recruiting, publishing and construction. Coming to Sloan, I knew I wanted to transition into management consulting, so I signed up for the pre-MBA roles, prepared for it and got my offer before starting business school. However, my unique lens as a Career Peer comes from my entrepreneurial experience: having scaled my company to 120 people, I interviewed dozens of candidates, and believe I can identify (and help showcase) strengths during recruiting processes.

Talk to Me About: Being a Career Switcher, Transitioning from Entrepreneurship, Case Interview Prep, Recruiting for Consulting

My Biggest Piece of Career Advice for 1Ys: Of course you should be prepared to show fit with a specific role, but as important as that is being mindful of your unique strengths, and making sure to show them authentically during any interview. For example, if you’re sociable, or highly analytical, or energetic, you need to show that as much as you’re showing you’re prepared for the job, because showing fit to the specific role is what everyone is already trying to do.

I was able to do a part-time internship at VC fund to learn and understand what aspects I enjoy and what excites me. It also made me realize it may be a path for me in the future and not immediately after grad school. I still wanted to be in the middle of all the happenings of product, AI, strategy in the Tech sector and pivoted to exploring opportunities in this area. I am excited to share my experience exploring two paths during my first year at business school and leveraging our Sloan alumni network in New York and California. Outside school, I enjoy reformer pilates, binge-watching documentaries, learning to be better at poker!

Primary Recruiting Industry: Venture Capital

Additional Areas of Expertise: Tech – Non PM

Hometown/Country: Boston, MA, United States

Clubs/Organizations: Asian American Alliance, Entrepreneurship Club, MIT $100K Competition

Bio: I’m a computer scientist by training, with experience working at both large tech companies as a software engineer and smaller startups in a variety of technical + GTM operator roles. I decided to recruit for venture capital because 1) I love startups and the entire ecosystem around it and 2) I realized that my background actually lended surprisingly well towards the investing side, despite initially thinking otherwise given my lack of finance experience. It’s been an exciting career switch for me filled with a ton of learnings and meeting a lot of awesome people building incredible technology. Feel free to reach out to chat about tech, startups, and investing or to play tennis or pickleball!

Talk to Me About: Being a career switcher, non-PM tech roles (background was a software engineer and have experience in big tech and startups), early-stage VC (pre-seed + seed) recruiting

My Biggest Piece of Career Advice for 1Ys: Start recruiting preparation as early as possible. The first semester of the MBA goes by way faster than you can imagine. So, any work that you can preempt — whether it’s revising your resume, crafting your personal story, doing interview prep, and networking — will pay dividends when you get deep into the semester trying to juggle exams, group projects, interviews and social life.
