MFin Career Question of the Week: How do I overcome feeling overwhelmed by recruiting?

How do I overcome feeling overwhelmed by recruiting?

MFin students are incredibly skilled, resourceful, and hard-working when it comes to recruiting, but you may still feel overwhelmed when juggling multiple priorities and decisions. Here are some practical tips to maintain your emotional balance and stay productive:

:meeting-talk: Check in with your career advisor:
Your career advisor can help assess your background and the recruiting progress, making sure you are on the right track. It helps to reduce stress when you have space to reflect on your process and work with the advisor to strategize on the next steps.

:teamwork:  Create a support system:
Remember you are not alone in your recruiting journey. In addition to building your industry connections, developing a team with families, friends, advisors, and mentors can provide you with support and encouragement, and keep you accountable.

:pie-chart: Compartmentalize your day:
When overwhelmed, you may feel worried about not being productive and put yourself in a vicious cycle. Divide your time into periods when you focus on different topics such as academics, careers, chores, and leisure activities. It could also mean scheduling an hour in a day to focus on worrying. Over time, it helps reduce your worries because you give it time and space.

:blob_stop:  Challenge negative self-talk:
Our perceptions of ourselves are not always accurate. If you find yourself thinking negatively about your abilities, such as “I am not good at quant,” rephrase the question in a more helpful way: “Where can I find opportunities that focus more on my strengths?”
