Paths to Sustainability Careers
The pathways to Sustainability vary, with new companies and roles appearing every year. Some companies engage in cohort hiring from business schools, while most opportunities will require you to pursue a networked job search. Research and informational interviews are a key part of your jobs search, to help you identify causes, functions, organizations, and roles that are of interest.
Cohort Hiring
Cohort hiring refers to companies that hire from programs in volume each year. Hiring often happens early in the school year, months in advance of the start date. This is not a path for specialized or unique job roles, as cohort hiring typically involves recruiting a group with similar skill sets.
Networked Job Search (primary path)
A networked job search is a traditional job search that is self-directed and uses skills that you will use in future job searches throughout your career. Beginning to network months in advance is essential for identifying opportunities. Timing of hire is typically shortly before the start date.
